Casa Major, Inc. was formed to attempt to address the critical shortage of affordable housing in California and throughout the nation. It was founded in 2001 by a core group of community minded individuals utilizing their considerable real estate experience to address this housing shortage by maintaining and increasing the affordable multi-family housing stock through acquisition, preservation and rehabilitation of existing facilities and development of new residential communities. Through its partnerships, Casa Major also owns and operates senior properties including independent living projects, assisted living facilities and more specialized communities serving individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Casa Major uses partnerships, joint ventures, Low Income Housing Tax Credits and tax exempt bond financing to accomplish its goals of providing, rehabilitating and preserving affordable housing. An additional benefit of these efforts is the stabilization of local neighborhoods. Through its partnerships, Casa Major currently owns and operates over 2,100 units in five counties in Northern California and five counties in Southern California.
